On this page Bas describes his experience with making a chic homemade countertop from oak carpentry panel. Based on an extensive photo report, you can see how he sawed the recess for the sink in the wood, sanded and finished the panel to create a durable and stylish countertop. He also shares helpful tips on attaching the top to base cabinets and maintaining them. The result is a beautiful and unique countertop that fits perfectly with his kitchen. Follow Bas's example and create your own custom-made oak countertop.

Description of Bas

Counttop / bar made for the kitchen. The hob and sink were sawn in and then painted and mounted three times in the colorless staircase.

How I made this project

First ordered and picked up the worktop. Then carefully measure where the hob and sink should be located. This was then cut out with a plunge saw. Lightly sand, degrease and then apply paint for the first time. Then sand thoroughly again (fibers rise after the first time), degrease and varnish. Then sand very lightly, degrease and varnish. Worktop is ready for attachment to a kitchen island with bar. After this, 2 more steel beams were attached to accommodate the overhang. Hob and sink mounted in it.
