In this DIY project, Arnold shows that you can make a fireplace in your home in a fairly simple way! He used custom-sawn moisture-resistant MDF to make the mantelpiece around the electric fireplace and painted it in a beautiful concrete-look paint. Read more about his approach and experience below.

Description of Arnold

For our new electric fireplace, with a fire image of 35cm high and 76cm wide, I have a 22mm thick waterproof chimney MDF sheet material made. A conscious choice was made to use waterproof sheet material, because the mantelpiece is placed on a tiled floor and water can reach the sheet material during mopping. I finished the frame with a concrete look paint from myindustrialinterior.nl and the plates within the frame were painted matte black. The electric decorative fireplace was installed last from the back.

How I made this project

I had the plates sawn to the correct size according to the dimensions on the working drawing. TOSIZE.lu. I glued the frame completely together and provided additional attachment from the back with small chair corners and 20mm screws. I then screwed the plates inside the frame from the back to the frame with 4x40 screws. The inner plates were then painted matt black, after which the rest of the mantelpiece was coated with concrete-look paint.

Dimensions of my DIY project
