With the help of the Ikea Ivar cupboard and sawn sheet material ordered online, you can quickly create a fantastic custom cupboard. In this DIY project, Lana shows how she tackled this for a cupboard in the living room. By combining different materials with hinges and locks in black steel, a truly unique eye-catcher has been created.

Description of Lana

High cabinet custom-made between the walls and to decorated as desired so that there is room to store everything I wanted to put away and to make the cupboard a decorative part of the space.

How I made this project

I used the Ikea Ivar shelving system as a basis and secured it to the wall for extra stability. The part in the middle with the drawers is a furnished shelving unit. I also used the side panels of this system to further give the cabinet shape and unity. The rest of the cabinet is made of pine wood, spruce wood and MDF, which I ordered online in the webshop. All visible planks are made of pine wood. I finished the sides of the open parts with thin pine wood so that it is no longer visible that the side panels are actually a shelving unit. The shelves in the cupboard are made of MDF. To finish, I painted the wood and left the cabinet doors (black MDF) untreated. The hinges and locks are made of black steel.

Dimensions of my DIY project

222.0 cm wide and 350.0 cm high
